The FBI presented the 2020 FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award to the Department of Computer Services at the University of North Florida.
FBI Jacksonville Special Agent Rachel Rojas presented the award to Jeff Durfee, UNF Director of Networks, Systems and Security on August 23.
Since 2016, UNF IT Services has partnered with the FBI’s Jacksonville Division to host an annual UNF-FBI Cyber Security Symposium.
The free event provides North Florida professionals, government officials, academics and law enforcement officials with information on emerging cyber threats and tips for preventing cyber attacks.
“In recent years, the FBI has seen a significant increase in cyber attacks, which has resulted in a growing need for business owners and local information operators to protect their systems,” Rojas said.
“Partnering with the UNF to host these conferences has enabled FBI Jacksonville Special Agents to bring this advice to the wider community. Simply put, the FBI could not meet the cyber information needs of this community without the help of the UNF-ITS team.
Special agents in charge of each of the office’s 56 field offices present the award on behalf of the FBI Director.
The award was established in 1990 to honor individuals and organizations for their efforts in the fight against crime, terrorism, drugs and violence in America, according to fbi.gov.
UNF Information Technology Services provides computer and software support, academic technologies, networks, information systems, computer training and awareness, telephone and television services, systems integration, development, business services and computer security services to the academic and administrative communities of the university.
It also manages and supports email, web, and file storage systems for students, faculty, and staff.
