OVERLAND PARK, Kan.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Netsmart, the developer of industry-leading CareFabric® platform for human services, post-acute care providers and payers, today announced its intent to apply to join the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) to become a Qualified Health Information Network ( QHIN). By supporting TEFCA, Netsmart continues its decade of advancing interoperability strategies to facilitate an open exchange of longitudinal healthcare data that will benefit people receiving care across the healthcare ecosystem.
Once accepted as a QHIN, Netsmart will become part of a unique national data sharing network that will set new standards for the private and public sectors. The Office of the National Health Information Technology Coordinator (ONC) is leading the charge and will oversee the QHIN process by designating The Sequoia Project as a Recognized Coordinating Entity (RCE). Netsmart worked with ONC and the Sequoia Project to help develop and provide feedback on the principles and procedures put forward by TEFCA.
Netsmart is a long-time leader and advocate for open networks and interoperability standards to put the needs of providers, clinicians, patients and their families first. This open network approach contrasts with technology vendors who, in some cases, have sought to carve out proprietary networks that stifle the future of care coordination. Open and secure sharing of data is necessary to achieve effective care coordination which Netsmart supports as a founding member of the Carequality Interoperability Framework.
The Netsmart Network, CareConnect™, was designed to provide customers with seamless health data integration and a single point of access to the broader health data ecosystem. With the CareConnect solution, Netsmart was one of the first healthcare IT providers to use the new 360X closed-loop benchmark standards in a production environment to bring true interoperability to life to minimize manual data entry. , which streamlines care transitions and coordination of care and reduces medications. Errors. By enabling providers to digitize their business, Netsmart customers are expected to perform more than 3 billion secure healthcare data exchanges facilitated by CareConnect in 2022.
“Our goal as a health technology partner has always been to offer comprehensive solutions and services that enable providers to remain competitive in a landscape that requires coordinated care and value-based practices to succeed,” said said Mike Valentine, CEO of Netsmart. “Becoming a qualified health information network aligns with our established history of being at the forefront of interoperability. As we take the next step in the evolution of data exchange, we look forward to collaborating with other health informatics vendors who apply to participate as QHINs to expand access to open networks for consumers nationwide.
