IOM Azerbaijan Leads Public Information Campaign Dedicated to World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

Baku, August 16, AZERTAC

This year, for the months of July and August, IOM Azerbaijan is running a public information campaign to raise awareness about human trafficking dedicated to the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.

The awareness campaign carried out under the project “Combatting Trafficking in Persons Activity” funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) targets both vulnerable groups and the general public in Azerbaijan, in this sense that not only those at immediate risk of trafficking will be targeted with direct prevention messages, but also the general population.

Posters and promotional videos in Azerbaijani and English were designed with the aim of raising awareness about trafficking, preventing vulnerable people from becoming victims of trafficking and encouraging people to report their concerns to the service specialized police advertising the Main Anti-Trafficking Department in Human Beings Helpline number 152.

This awareness campaign was posted on the Mission’s social media pages, as well as in Baku metro stations. Large posters are displayed in the streets of Azerbaijan’s capital, public places illustrating different types of human trafficking that pose a threat to society.

The campaign, which tackles both sexual and labor exploitation and the exploitation of children as a widespread form of modern slavery, is part of IOM’s ongoing initiative to help governments, civil society organizations, international organizations and the private sector to combat human trafficking in Azerbaijan.

IOM works with the Azerbaijani government and within NAP4 to help prevent human trafficking, encourage the prosecution of criminal human traffickers, and assist survivors of trafficking and their families. With funding from USAID, IOM is supporting three civil society shelters in Azerbaijan to help vulnerable women and children, including survivors of domestic violence, exploitation, and human trafficking.
