Farmers best suited for renewable fertilizers

This is Tim Hammerich from the Ag Information Network with your Farm of the Future report.

Last week we reported on Nitricity, which is a company that has developed a reactor to generate nitrogen fertilizer using only air, water and renewable energy. CEO Nico Pinkowski says the next step is to find collaborating farmers and that there are certain types of farmers who are a perfect fit for this technology.

Pinkowski… “The perfect number one is people who currently use nitrates and love them. Things like calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate; or people who have a pH problem: who have alkaline or hard water or soils. What nitric makes from air and water is a good fit. So we are looking for farmers interested in this product, interested in sustainability and clean energy. And we want to hear from you, and we want to hear from the retailers you’re buying from today, the price points, the market constraints, your soil pH, your macro and micronutrient mix. We want to know what is needed and what farmers want. And then we’re going to take that and take a map of the United States and find a good overlap between demand and demand from farmers and low-cost intermittent electricity. And we have a lot of renewable energy companies interested and, we want to take the interest of farmers, put solar or wind power somewhere where it can be very cheap and provide.
