Farm business analysis

Tim Hammerich

It’s time to publish your Farm of the Future report. I am Tim Hammerich.

Pat Smith, a fourth-generation hop and apple grower, began his career in finance before returning home to run the family farm. He realized that one of the areas for improvement on his farm was to make better use of data. This led to the creation of a company called Loftus Labs to help agricultural businesses around the world better understand and leverage agricultural data.

Smith… “At Loftus Labs, we will never know your farm better than you do. What we hope to do is help you make better decisions. Either the same decision you would have made, but faster, easier with less stress, or help you discover something you wouldn’t have discovered, but were going to rely on your intuition, your knowledge of the field, to help you take what the numbers are telling us and associate it with knowledge of the crop, knowledge of that particular field, the soil, the weather, whatever happened.

Smith and his team of consultants work with all operations, regardless of the technologies they use, to help them build a data warehouse and use that data to drive actionable results.

Smith… “This is where I think analytics is going to play a big role in the future of agriculture. We can all learn something by measuring and understanding what is happening in our fields or in our businesses.
