Application Deadline for the Pandemic Cover Crop Program

Application Deadline for the Pandemic Cover Crop Program

The USDA would like to remind growers that the deadline for getting help with cover crops is Tuesday, March 15. Risk Management Agency Administrator Marcia Bunger says the Pandemic Cover Crop program had a successful pilot year, but this year the USDA made changes that should benefit even more farmers. .

“In 2021, we saw growers receive $59.6 million in cover crop support premiums on 12.2 million acres. My personal opinion is that we should see this number and maybe even more for the 2022 program. We have made some changes to the 2022 program. It continues to cover winter cover followed by a spring sown assured crop and will include now also summer cover for insured crops sown in the fall.

“Agricultural producers who are covered by most crop insurance policies will be eligible for the premium credit premium of $5 per acre up to the premium due if they planted cover crops, followed of an insured crop in the 2022 crop year. The CNCP does not change acreage reporting dates, reporting requirements or anything else as it relates to crop insurance policies. »

No enrollment in the program is required. Growers automatically get the benefit if they report eligible cover crops on the acreage report by March 15. Contact your local agricultural service agency office for more information.
