A deep dive into information literacy research

CHICAGO – The past decades have witnessed a deep and continuing interest in information literacy. This interest has given rise to a wide range of research undertaken and a thriving body of literature created by academic researchers, librarians and other researchers who explore information literacy through their own disciplinary lens. “The Qualitative Landscape of Information Literacy Research,” published by Facet Publishing and available through ALA Store, describes this research landscape. Annemaree Lloyd explores the key theories, methodologies and methods that have been used to shape our knowledge of information literacy and the approaches we apply to its investigation; and for balance, it also discusses quantitative and mixed methods approaches for information literacy research. In each chapter, key examples are given of how the theory, types of educational frameworks, methods and tools have been used. The coverage includes:

  • locate research on information literacy;
  • inform research on information literacy;
  • supervise the pedagogy of information literacy;
  • qualitative methods;
  • quantitative approaches and mixed methods;
  • data gathering;
  • research planning; and
  • evaluate information literacy research.
